Social Networking Gaining Currency

According to reports, a study conducted by market research firm comScore reveals that social networking has really taken off globally -- over the past one year.

MySpace proved to be the mother of social networking Web sites with nearly 114 million unique visitors (globally) in the month of June, which is the highest amongst all, though percentage increase was just 72 compared to last year.
Facebook came in at second place with 52.2 million unique visitors; Hi5 at third place with 28.2 million unique visitors; and Orkut and Friendster both at fourth place, each attracting over 24 million unique visitors.

Unlike MySpace, Tagged experienced the highest jump percentage-wise, namely, 774 percent; followed by Facebook with 270 percent; Bebo 172 percent; Orkut 78 percent; Friendster 65 percent; and Hi5 56 percent.

Especially in the Indian market, Orkut grew by 35 percent in the past one year, and got 7.2 million unique visitors in the month of June; followed by MySpace, which grew by 33 percent, and attracted 399,000 unique visitors in June. Facebook came in at third place vis-a-vis the Indian market.
